Recently, Morningstar made three strategic acquisitions that will help our clients continue to further leverage Morningstar as one global source of reliable and cost effective data and research tools.
On December 4th, Morningstar acquired 10-K Wizard, a leading provider of SEC EDGAR filing research and alert services. 10-K Wizard is a well-respected resource for financial research. They have developed a robust and intuitive data mining application that allows users to easily search and retrieve information across different filings and time periods. The acquisition of 10-K Wizard aligns with Morningstar's goal of bringing greater transparency to equity investments. Founded in 1999, 10-K Wizard offers full-text searching capabilities for real-time and historical SEC EDGAR filings via a subscription service or custom data feed. The company also provides global company profiles that contain hyperlinks to annual reports and peer companies as well as stock quotes, news, and charts.
On December 12th, Morningstar acquired Tenfore Systems Limited. Tenfore is a UK-based company that provides real-time data feeds, including real-time pricing fees, and financial data workstations. Tenfore provides data on equities, commodities, derivatives, indexes, and foreign currencies from more than 160 sources and consolidates the data for real-time distribution to clients. The company also offers front-end software terminals that leverage the company's market data, along with analytics and third-party application plug-ins. Tenfore serves more than 500 clients worldwide, including brokerage firms, banks, trading firms, buy-side institutions, financial information and technology providers, corporations, and retail investors.
On April 20th, Morningstar acquired Global Reports LLC. Founded in 1999 in Kensington, Md., Global Reports provides timely online access to full-color financial filings from more than 37,000 publicly traded companies in approximately 130 countries. Global Reports offers more than 500,000 current and historical filings and reports, such as annual and interim reports, initial public offerings, and CSR reports, in their native languages and in English, when available. Most filings and reports become available the same day they are issued by public companies. Subscribers can search filings confidentially according to company name, country, exchange, index, report type, or report year. The Global Reports full-color filings will be incorporated into the 10-K Wizard service, and will soon be fully searchable.
By the end of 2009, we will also have fundamental data for companies traded on exchanges in Japan, Korea, India, Pakistan, and the Middle East.
